Selling through Auction. Finding the right Auction House to achieve the very best possible sale price is extremely important. We understand it can be quite a daunting exercise and many people feel uncomfortable attending a live auction - whether it's to buy or sell. Although auctions may appear complicated in actuality they are not. Whether you are buying or selling it is necessary a registration process is required and it's wise to familiarise yourself with auction protocols. In some instances surety guarantees are required which can appear complicated. Auction House fees also vary considerably depending on who you ultimately instruct. Fees you can expect to pay are known as 'Vendor Fees' typically around 15 - 20% plus V.A.T levied on the final 'Hammer Price.' You can also expect to pay 'Lotting Fees' typically £5 - £15.00 per itemplus 'Cataloguing Fees' (fees vary considerably) should you choose to have a photograph of your item included within a sale catalogue. If you are intending to use auctions we strongly recommend you attend various auctions on both their 'Pre-Sale Viewing' days and on actual 'Sale' Days in advance of personally selling or buying and also talk to the Auctioneers and Porters, such people are a veritable fountain of knowledge and information. |
Personal Representation. If you wish to sell or indeed purchase at auction but require complete anonymity, we're here to help. We will also deal with any documentation required and ensure item/s are correctly marketed and entered for sale. If you are looking to purchase a particular item at auction we can help you avoid the time constraint of personally attending. An experienced ACI Consultant will personally attend the auction and anonymously represent you on the sale day. Take care when selling GOLD at this present time.
When any market rises sharply, new traders always enter the market-place. Currently advertising on TV and National newspapers are companies inviting you to apply for an exciting sounding 'Gold Kit' (which is little more than a reply paid envelope) where you are invited to send your unwanted gold without having been given a valuation in advance. Some companies are reluctant to provide advance valuations until they have received your gold. You may be advised the market changes so rapidly it's almost impossible to give a current valuation. Be advised that the price of gold is fixed twice daily at a 'A.M' and 'P.M' fix. It would not be impolite of you to request a rough valuation. If a satisfactory reply is not forthcoming, avoid dealing with such organisations and ask yourself a question before deciding to send your gold: "am I the kind of person who would usually trust a complete stranger with my valuables?" |
Research conducted by us has shown these types of business pay little more than 60 - 70% or lower of current market price. Our advice would be to avoid such organisations unless you have satisfactorily dealt with them in the past or they are of long standing reputation with a proven track record and ALWAYS obtain a written valuation and 'offer to purchase' letter in advance BEFORE parting with goods.
